steaming teapot

We’ve been MIA and we apologize. We run here. We work there. We brew. We blend. We deliver. We open. We close. We have been moving at the speed of light!

So… this morning. We have slowed down just a bit. Turned on the tea kettle, prepared a cup of tea (we’re actually on cup three), and enjoyed the moment. There are no cell phones around. No iPads or computers (I promise to shut down after this post!). No agenda.

Everyone in the office is on required quiet time break. It’s nice. I can hear the bird outside of the window. I can hear a lawnmower in the distance. I can the faint noise of the flute in the jazz song playing on the radio. I can smell the lemon verbena growing in the office. My senses are alive. My heart is calm. And this cup of tea feels good in my hands.

Try it. Take a moment for yourself. Unplug. Breathe. And sip…

6 Creative Ways to enjoy National Hot Tea Month

teapot and tea

January is National Hot Tea Month. There is National doughnut Day. National Pi Day. National Talk Like a Pirate Day. But tea gets an entire month! Tea lovers rejoice!!! And what better way to celebrate than to embrace the frigid temperatures and turn on the teapot. Here at just add honey, we welcome National Hot Tea Month and find creative ways to enjoy the beverage all January long.

  1. Sample a tea you have never tried before! Have you heard of pu’erh tea? Or Yunnan? How about basil tea? Or infusing lavender in your current favorite? During January, take a moment to relax, relate, revisit teas that you want to explore and possibly enjoy. You only need an ounce to start with. And if you love it, add it to the rotation. If you don’t, offer it to a friend.
  2. Host a inspirational board party! Where do you want life to take you in 2014? What are your goals? Aspirations? Invite your business colleagues, girlfriends, or family over to brainstorm future goals for 2014. Turn on the teapot and get to work. With a group setting, it forces you to dream and explore past your comfort level and your counterparts can hold you accountable later during the year when you feel sluggish.
  3. Read a good book. With so many new indie authors out here, anything you want to know is in print or e-book for you to read. We are always so busy with life that we never take the time to stop. Force yourself to read a few sections, pages, chapters. During that time, enjoy a cup of hot tea. Schedule it in your day.
  4. Have a mid day mixer. Green tea has about 20mg of caffeine per cup {coffee = 85mg}. Why not have a green tea mid day mixer with your co workers. Around 2pm, ring a bell, turn on the teapot, and enjoy a cup like you would at the water cooler. Let the green tea give you the extra push to finish out the day!
  5. Meditate. Find a quiet place and reflect. Let your breath be slow, your mind be at peace. It only takes five minutes. After your meditation, enjoy a cup of hot tea. Your well-being will thank you for it.
  6. Just drink it! All the cool kids are doing it! Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world {water is first}. Do to be in the “in crowd”; do it for your health. Happy habits start now.

Cheers tea lovers!

National Tea Month

January 30, 2013

January is National Tea Month!

What better month to celebrate all of teas’ glory than in the beginning of the year. If your New Year’s Resolution is like half of America, weight loss and healthier living starts with what you put in your mouth. So why not start with a cup of tea! Green, rooibos, herbal teas… it doesn’t matter. Any cup will do.

Happy New Year and Here’s to a great 2013!

You have loose leaf tea in your pantry among all of that bagged tea stuff. It’s pretty. It smells good. But what do you do with it?!

Fret not! just add honey knows tea. And we know how to blend the perfect cup. Pay attention, folks.

All teas are brewed with different times and water temperatures. Have you had a bitter cup? Well, it’s probably because it wasn’t brewed properly.

First, what do I put these leaves in?

There are several brewing vessels that you can use to enjoy a good cup of loose leaf tea.

This stainless steel teaspoon infuser is perfect for a single cup. Fill one side with tea, level it off, and dunk it a 8oz cup of hot water.

These biodegradable, unbleached tea filters from TeaBrew are our personal favorite. They can be used for a single cup or a pot! But don’t over stuff your bag:: tea expands and if is stuffed; Where will it go? How will it breathe?

Do you have friends coming over? Good. Pull out this stainless steel teapot infuser and your good china. It rests inside of your teapot and fill it up based on how many cups your teapot will hold.

Get it. Got it. Good.

Now for the water and time.

Here’s an easy chart to get you started… It’s tea time!
